Colour of the year 2024 Pantone Peach Fuzz - Colours By Kathy

Did you know that Pantone, the Colour (Color based in the US) analyses global issues and chooses their Colour of the Year in the Autumn for the following year, and other colours for each season many months in advance of the actual season?

There’s always a story or reasoning behind their choices. For example, in late 2020 considering everything we faced with the global pandemic,  they chose two colours Ultimate grey and Illuminating Yelow for 2021 (a yellow).

On releasing these ‘ two independent colours, Leatrice Eiseman Executive Director said at the time, “The union of an enduring Ultimate Gray with the vibrant yellow Illuminating expresses a message of positivity supported by fortitude. Practical and rock solid but at the same time warming and optimistic, this is a colour combination that gives us resilience and hope.  We need to feel encouraged and uplifted; this is essential to the human spirit.”

Colour of the year 2024 – Peach Fuzz

For this year 2024, Peach Fuzz is the colour of the Year.  The colour (& colours featured) don’t just appear in clothing, they’re depicted in accessories, homeware, paints and practically everything you’ll see in the shops, both on the high street and online.

Leatrice Eiseman said of this year’s colour – “PANTONE 13-1023 Peach Fuzz captures our desire to nurture ourselves and others. It’s a velvety gentle peach tone whose all-embracing spirit enriches mind, body, and soul.”

In seeking a hue that echoes our innate yearning for closeness and connection, we chose a colour radiant with warmth and modern elegance. A shade that resonates with compassion, offers a tactile embrace and effortlessly bridges the youthful with the timeless.

Will this colour suit me?

In terms of how this colour will suit individuals, it’s a light, warm colour that is also soft and gentle, so those of you with light or gentle warm colouring will able to wear it alone. You may want to add some other colours, so I’ve given you some choices below.

For those of you with dark hair and dark eyes, dark hair and contrasting eyes, or silver/white hair with strong eyes, like me, you’ll need to add another colour with it to give it more ‘oomph’ and ensure it doesn’t make you look washed out.

I’ve also given some choices below for those of you who have strong auburn hair with either porcelain or warm skins, golden hair and golden skin tones.

Pantone Colour of the year 2024 - Peach Fuzz - Colour suggestions for complementing depending on your hair, skin and eye colour

For Spring and Summer 2024, the designers decided to play it safe reflecting the background of economic uncertainty.  The focus has been on more of a muted palette, with just a dash of bold colour.  This is the trend they set towards wearable ‘extraordinary everyday’ staples.

There also seems to be a minimalist approach but rest assured, whatever your colour type, or preferred style, there will be a way for you to add to your wardrobe to refresh it, should you wish.

In terms of colours, there are the usual lighter shades including pinks, peach fuzz and sky blue as shown in my diagram above, plus a whole palette of creams, beiges and lighter browns, which are often known as latte shades in the makeup and fashion worlds nowadays.  Pops of red were in many collections, and you will also find bolder blues and greens on the high street.

I will be covering some of the trends, styles and colour ideas in my consultations over the next couple of months.
